At Bois Cornillé, walking is an art of living...
Created by architects and landscape architects, the château and its park never cease to play with history and its memories. Between the groves spring the spiers of the neo-Gothic residence; they watch over the estate: flowerbeds, forests, views of the bocage and the rural heritage.
We walk there, as in the Belle Epoque, under the shade. Via the alley of moss, the visitor reaches the walled pond and the bridle paths which plunge into the heart of the wood. On the way back, he will take the ring road which leads to the charming flowered gardens of the granting pavilions and their sunken lanes.
For the time being, at the edge of the walled pond, on the steps of the pier, he begins to dream of parasols and boaters, of boat or carriage rides... Everything there is balance and poetry. An invitation to love life. Quite simply.

If the history of the place dates back to the 13th and 15th centuries, it was at the end of the 19th century that the estate took on its current character.
In 1883 the brothersjulesAndHenry Melletremodel the castle in the neo-Gothic style.
In 1872,Denis Buhler, creator of Parc Oberthür and Parc du Thabor in Rennes, is designing a “ parc agricole ” at Bois Cornillé. The organization of the groves frames the views, directs the gaze and enhances the picturesque character of the land: village steeples, old farms, remarkable oaks. Herds, game crossings and field work enliven the landscape.
In 1900, the landscape painterEdward Andrecombines the great tradition of the French garden and the English inspiration of the landscaped park to give substance to its motto : unity of the whole and variety in the details. At Bois Cornillé, it is the edge of the woods that forms the visual unity of the park. Edouard André installs his flowerbeds there and magnifies the views of the pastures and the towers of the castle. Then he draws in the heart of the wood several decorative scenes that punctuate the walk and create a surprise effect without breaking the harmony.

A recognized historical and aesthetic interest.
This work on the edge, a meeting point between the wildness of the wood, rural civilization and the elegance of the regular garden, makes this estate an endearing ensemble characteristic of 19th century garden art. Particularly well preserved, the Bois Cornillé is the culmination of French and English landscape traditions; it is a source of inspiration for developing our rural landscape.
Park and castle are listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments.
Since 2014, the park has been labeled " Jardin Remarquable " by the DRAC.
